I surely didn't order a room in the basement!
I paid by cash for 9 nights at my arrival and if I didn't ask at least 3 times for a receipt, I wouldn't get it.
In the basement room, the bathroom wasn't clean at all with hair all over.
Though I asked a few times, the room and bathroom weren't cleaned the 9 nights of my stay! Read less

When I booked, English breakfast was available: I should have received a mail indicating there was none any more. And when we came back to the hotel on the second night, the towels hadn't been changed

With regards to the hotel, I liked the Hotels location. Thanet Hotel should loose 2 of 3 stars!

The fan was a blessing in the heat, since we had rooms at the front facing the sun. And the location can´t be beaten.
Dislikes:
Everything else. Seriously, it was horrible! The reception was very unwelcoming, the rooms were dirty, amenities missing or not working, 200 words are not enough to describe it all!

Months in advance I booked the Thanet. We had enjoyed the location, hospitality, and breakfast 10 years ago, and I was looking forward to returning. The night before we left for London, I received an email saying my reservations had been canceled with no explanation. We kept the reservation for the night before our return. I wish we hadn't. The experience at reception was dismal. We had no room at the Thanet, but had been booked at the Lonsdale (terrible reviews) with a basement bathroom. Read less

The young man from housekeeping was the only positive. He was very creative and eventually found us a room in the Thanet with a bathroom.The toilet handle was broken, but he rigged it to flush.
Dislikes:
The Thanet was unrecognizable: dingy, rundown, unwelcoming and incompetent desk clerk. I was told someone had made a mistake and I would have to get another hotel. I refused to leave.

We expected the room to at least have shampoo and tissue. (We used toilet paper for tissue.) And larger wastebaskets would have been helpful.

The usual mix of fotball games, rock concerts, musicals and theatres and some pints.
Dislikes:
Now there was new owners, no breakfast was served, and the cleaning of the bathroom was poor. There was mold in the shower and the cleaning man was not able to remove it because of lack of chemicals.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Over four hundred pounds for 2 rooms which were not clean and in need of a serious refurbishment. We were supposed to have breakfast included but there was no place to actually have any in the hotel. The beds were too soft and the bathroom was awful. Dirty grout, mouldy shower curtains and the tv was just slightly larger than an iPad!! We actually had to change from one room as it was so dusty and unclean. Read less
